Special Educational Needs at Mareham

At Mareham Primary School, we are committed to ensuring that every child feels included, valued and supported to achieve their full potential. Our SEND provision reflects our Christian values of friendship, respect, perseverance, forgiveness and responsibility.

🌟 How We Identify Special Educational Needs

Children may be identified as having additional needs through:

  • Teacher observations and assessments
  • Progress tracking and class work
  • Discussions with parents and carers
  • Information from previous settings
  • Advice from external professionals

Early identification is a priority. Parents are informed as soon as any concerns arise so we can work together.

📘 How We Support Children with SEND

Support may include:

  • Differentiated classroom teaching
  • Small group or individual interventions
  • Pre-teaching and overlearning
  • Visual supports and assistive technology
  • Adaptations to the learning environment
  • Emotional and pastoral support

Children may have an Individual Education Plan (IEP) with clear targets that are reviewed regularly.

🔄 Assess – Plan – Do – Review

We follow a graduated approach:

  • Assess needs
  • Plan support with parents and pupils
  • Do deliver support
  • Review progress and adapt provision

Reviews take place at least termly.

🤝 Working with Parents and Pupils

We value strong partnerships with families and pupils. We:

  • Share progress regularly
  • Invite parents to review meetings
  • Listen to pupil voice
  • Encourage open communication

🧩 Access to the Curriculum

All pupils are supported to access a broad and balanced curriculum. Teaching is adapted to meet individual needs and ensure pupils can take part in learning, trips and wider school life wherever possible.

🏥 Specialist Support

When needed, we work with external professionals such as:

  • Speech and Language Therapists
  • Educational Psychologists
  • Specialist teachers and health services

Parents are always consulted before referrals are made.
